OPERATOR TRAINING FOR AERIAL PLATFORMS

 SCISSOR LIFTS & BOOM SUPPORTED PLATFORMS

 

This one-day workshop is based upon the training requirements as stated in the Occupational Health and Safety Act and related regulations.

CLASSROOM THEORY COMPONENT Morning

Pre operational equipment checks Safety check of the working area
Use of outriggers, if provided
Potential electrical and head hazards Working with fuel or batteries as equipped
Use of operating controls
Load limits 
Working with awkward loads Controlling fall hazards related to tools Stability related to moving boom supported platforms Anchor points Proper use of fall arrest equipment
Responding to emergencies  

 

 

PRACTICAL OPERATIONS COMPONENT Afternoon

Each participant’s operating skills will be evaluated by the instructor and at least one of the other participants.

 

TRAINING METHODS

To ensure maximum involvement participants will be encouraged to help with demonstrations and to share experiences related to the use of boom trucks in their workplace. The content of this workshop will be adapted to match the equipment used and the loads moved in your workplace.

 

CERTIFICATES

All successful candidates will receive an operator certificate of competency which should be renewed every three years.

 When on construction sites, the operator must have this certificate as proof of training.

 

CLASS SIZE

To ensure that there is time to complete the practical segment the class is limited to 8 participants. To comply with the definition of “competent” up to two supervisors may attend as observers
