EXPERIENCED OPERATOR TRAINING FOR BOOM TRUCKS  

This one day workshop is based upon the training requirements as stated in the Occupational Health and Safety Act and related regulations for boom trucks with a rating of up to 8 tons.  

 

CLASSROOM THEORY COMPONENT Morning

Duties as stated in the Act and related regulations
Principles of safely operating a boom truck- stability
Impact of changing load centre while moving the boom
Boom truck stability - using stabilizer legs - if equipped

 

Potential hazards in your workplace 
Pre-startup procedures 
Safely handling of loads with hooks, chains, or slings as required 

   

PRACTICAL OPERATIONS COMPONENT Afternoon

The operating skills of each participant will be evaluated by the instructor and at least one of the other participants.

During the evaluation phase each participant will demonstrate his/her ability to:

             - complete a circle check of the equipment

             - prepare the boom for operation and stow it away for transportation

             - properly use the stabilizers (if equipped with them)

             - safely lift the types of loads normally lifted as part of  their regular job

 

TRAINING METHODS

To ensure maximum involvement participants will be encouraged to help with demonstrations and to share experiences related to the use of boom trucks in their workplace. The content of this workshop will be adapted to match the equipment used and the loads moved in your workplace.

 

CERTIFICATES

All successful candidates will receive  a boom truck operator certificate which should be renewed every three years.

 

CLASS SIZE

To ensure that there is time to complete the practical segment the class is limited to 8 participants. To comply with the definition of “competent” up to two supervisors may attend as observers
