CRANE OPERATOR TRAINING

 

This one day workshop is based upon the training requirements as stated in the Occupational Health and Safety Act and related regulations.

 

CLASSROOM THEORY COMPONENT Morning

Duties as stated in the Act and related regulations

Principles of safely operating a crane 

Impact of changing load centre 

Evaluating load stability

 

Potential hazards in your workplace 

Pre-startup procedures 

Safely handling of loads with hooks, chains 
clamps, magnets, or slings as required

   

PRACTICAL OPERATIONS COMPONENT   Afternoon

The operating skills of each participant will be evaluated by the instructor and at least one of the other participants.

 

During the evaluation phase each participant will demonstrate his/her ability to:

             - safely move the loads they are responsible for in your workplace

             - properly use slings etc. as required in your workplace

             - store equipment in a proper safe manner

             - comply with your operating procedures

 

TRAINING METHODS

To ensure maximum involvement participants will be encouraged to help with demonstrations and to share experiences related to the use of cranes in your workplace. The content of this workshop will be adapted to match the equipment used and the loads moved in your workplace.

 

CERTIFICATES

All successful candidates will receive  a crane operator certificate which should be renewed every three years.

 

CLASS SIZE

To ensure that there is time to complete the practical segment the class is limited to 8 participants.  Supervisors who  attend only the  theory component,  to comply with the definition of “competent”, will not affect the participant count.
