LOCK OUT/ TAG OUT

 

This workshop should be attended by maintenance workers, set up personnel, production workers who may be required to lockout their equipment and their supervisors.

CLASSROOM /THEORY COMPONENT

Morning 

Duties as specified in the legislation

Types of energy which must be controlled

Possible pitfalls to be avoided

Types of safety devices available

Lock out procedure *

Shift cross over procedure *

Restoring energy *

Case studies of accidents                                                 

* your existing  procedures, if any, will be reinforced

 

 

PRACTICAL/WORKPLACE COMPONENT

Afternoon

In small groups the participants will select various  processes in your workplace which require lock out/tag out:

- if there is a current  procedure it will be evaluated based upon the  information presented in the theory component.

- if there is no procedure, they will begin to develop one which will be submitted for evaluation and approval.

The results of each of these assignments will be presented to and discussed by the group.

 

TRAINING METHODS

To ensure maximum involvement participants will be encouraged to:

          -  participate in demonstrations.

          -  share experiences in the workplace.

 

Case studies, flip charts, lockout equipment and overheads will be used in this workshop.

 

CERTIFICATES

All successful participants will receive a Lock Out/Tag Out certificate.

 

CLASS SIZE

The optimum number of participants is 8 to 12. This group size promotes lively discussion and ensures individual attention.
